What Are Investment Visas?

October 30, 2023

Investment visas in the United States, also known as EB-5 visas, are a path for foreign investors who want to establish themselves in the country while supporting projects that generate jobs and benefit the economy. The EB-5 program is a unique form of immigration, allowing investors and their families to apply for permanent residency in the United States.

Here is an overview of investment visas in the United States:

1. Investment Required:
To qualify for an EB-5 visa, investors must make a significant investment in a business venture in the United States. The minimum investment amount varies depending on the location of the project and can range from $500,000 to $1,800,000.

2. Job Creation:
The primary purpose of the EB-5 program is to encourage job creation in the United States. Investors must demonstrate that their investment has resulted in the creation of at least ten full-time jobs for skilled or unskilled workers within a specified time frame.

3. Regional Centers:
Many investors choose to invest through a Regional Center, which is an entity designated by the government to manage investment projects and meet job creation requirements. Regional Centers are a popular option for EB-5 investors.

4. Family Eligibility:
The EB-5 program also benefits the investor’s family. The spouse and unmarried children under 21 years of age can apply for residency together with the main investor.

5. Application Process:
The application process for an EB-5 visa involves submitting an immigrant petition along with evidence of investment and job creation. After approval, the investor and her family can apply for conditional green cards.

6. Conditional Residence Cards:
Investors get conditional residency cards valid for two years. After this period, they can request the removal of the conditions for obtaining permanent residence.
